Calc, the spreadsheet application, can now use sheets with 16,384 columns. Writer has improved change tracking and new settings for hyphenation, and Impress now supports document themes. The entire suite now supports WebP images, and there are new options available for the ScriptForge scripting library (LibreOffice's equivalent to Office macros). There are a few other ways to open (and even edit) Microsoft Office files without giving Microsoft your money, but the new update ensures LibreOffice remains one of the best tools for the job. LibreOffice Writer has improved support for borders and clearing breaks from Word documents, and LibreOffice Impress has fixes for embedded media and shapes from PowerPoint files. Like nearly every LibreOffice update, version 7.4 improves cross-compatibility with Microsoft Office documents. "LibreOffice 7.4 Community is released in 120 different language versions, more than any other free or proprietary software," the group said. The Document Foundation, the organization that manages LibreOffice development, also highlighted the expanded language support. Of that it should be noted that in the View, Colour Scheme settings these are not independent of how you have your Microsoft Windows settings made, settings regarding colours in Microsoft Windows can affect the result of the LibreOffice 'View' setting made.LibreOffice 7.4 is a significant update, with contributions from 147 developers and support for Windows, macOS, and Linux. (1) The 'View' settings and (2) The 'Application Colours' settings. So in all it seems there are two places that can be tweaked around with to get a Dark Theme. In 7.4x there should have been a possibility. and there seems to be no way to bring it back to normal without changing the windows settings to the light version (what I don’t want). There is a problem: I use the windows dark mode, so that the LibreOffice also appears in the dark mode. (And the colour change to a 'visited' link doesn't work properly, but I've now filed a bug report on that.) I just have updated my LibreOffice to the 7.5 version. Note that if you try this there are tick-boxes next to the "Unvisited links" and "Visited links" - you need to put a tick in those boxes to get the link colours to act as they should. More instructions for dealing with the Application Colours settings can be seen here: Application Colors. In LibreOffice 7.4.x you need to first click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Advanced and then tick the box Enable. I tried fiddling around with a Dark theme a bit more in LibreOffice and found that if you go (menu) Tools > Options.> LibreOffice > Application Colours > Colour Scheme > Scheme: and from the drop-down select the in-built option LibreOffice Dark then you get a complete Dark Scheme for the editor window. In LibreOffice 7.5.0.3 The tabbed toolbar picks up Windows dark mode but you need to change the icons manually (click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View and change icon theme) to a dark theme which looks like a bug. I tried the above in my Windows 10 system, liked the result, the menus and icons display is much clearer, and for now am using the Dark theme in LibreOffice. In any case, besides the theme issue you are experiencing, there are several good reasons to switch to LibreOffice anyway, some of which are given here: Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information (You can mess around with the Windows theme once you see the LibreOffice Dark theme correctly.) So to test out the LibreOffice Dark theme itself you might find that switching to the Windows 11 Default theme helps you see the LibreOffice Dark theme as it was intended. This might be because of the Microsoft Windows system theme you are using in Windows 11 – for example you might be using a custom Windows theme of your own and that is having an, in this instance, undesirable consequence. If you try LibreOffice and its Dark theme you might find that the menu items don't show up clearly when you use the menus. LibreOffice Dark Theme Joined Rip.png (86.52 KiB) Viewed 1441 times
